The MIX short is designed with yoga and pilates in mind combining a luxurious woven jersey cotton feel with a relaxed bike-short cut, making it a perfect comfort option no matter what your activity. Like myself everyone who gets a pair finds themselves wearing them lounging and relaxing in them just as much as when doing yoga or stretching!
The reason I made these out of cotton rather than a performance synthetic fabric is Yoga is one of the few stationary activities you sweat in a stationary position, especially in a heated class where there is no air flow. Synthetic fabrics work when you have airflow and are moving and otherwise they just feel saturated and slimey by the end of a class whilst our short feels like a comfortable second skin as they offer more absorption of sweat.
However we don't use cheap jersey cotton that you get in pretty much any shopping mall chain or box store. We import premium Japanese jersey cotton specifically for this garment at an expense greater than wool for it's following features:
Interlock Knit - This is the tightest and most costly way to weave jersey cotton. You know the big loose weave on the inside of cheap jersey? This is the opposite with a tightly woven weave. It produces the softest feel whilst creating strength and allows a natural flex in the fibres with no need for any synthetic stretch component that will blow the garment out over time. This means our MIX short keeps it shape wash after wash.
Mercerised and Enzyme Washed - Two treatments which strengthen the cotton and provides a lustrous appearance. Makes the fabric softer, more supple and neutralises odour. Often performed with denim.
Singed - The fabric is run over an open flame which singes of the loose bits that can cause pilling. These shorts won't pill!
There are technical features like lightly elasticised cuffs so the short does not ride up and a flat waistband with flat laces stitched into place so they don't twist and create pressure points.
Here is a review from a customer I met at Manly market who I discovered later is a yoga teacher:
"Hi Roland, Sorry it's taken me a while to get back to you, yeah I'm happy to give a testimonial! I'm really enjoying the shorts, I don't really notice them at all when I'm practising yoga (mainly astanga and vinyasa) so it's great to have one less thing to distract me from my practice. They're so much more comfortable than my citrusy synthetic lululemon shorts too ;) I think mainly due to the softer fabric and breathability, and they don't seem to hold any odour which is an added bonus. They've also lasted really well considering the amount of use they've had, the construction of them is solid and only really bought a second pair for some variety. Awesome shorts, stoked I stumbled upon your stall at the Manly markets, thanks!! - Kane"
Fit tip and model size: Buying them in your waist size will provide a silhouetted fit. If you have muscular/larger bum and thighs then normal I suggest going up a size. The waist band won't feel much bigger as it is elasticised with a draw string.
Matt the model is 5'10 with a 28 inch waist and wears the XS but myself I am a 6'0 and not as lean at 86kgs so while I normally wear a 34/L in most garments I prefer the 36/XL due to having larger glutes and thighs.
